The joy of pet ownership is forever intertwined with sorrow, for these devoted companions spend their entire existence accompanying us through life's most significant chapters. With deep affection, I remember my dear cat ERLING (二零), who stayed by my side throughout my challenging PhD years. ERLING was a stray I adopted in 2018 - gentle, loving, and surprisingly understanding for a cat. Sadly, ERLING's life ended too soon in a car accident in December 2023. Though just a pet, her quiet presence comforted me through many anxious, sleepless nights. I'll always be grateful for her companionship, and the memories we shared will stay with me forever.
